The "Other" Love Story
joeysjam: The Offspring’s “Want You Bad” was the inspiration for this entry.   While listening to it recently, for the first time I discovered it’s actually a very sad song. Behind the band’s demonstrative, heavy guitar riffs and passionate, rhythmic drumming, lead singer Dexter Holland sings fervently about a boy yearning for a special girl. Maybe it’s love, or just lust (probably the latter,...

RIP Christopher Hitchens
What a mind.  We’re truly at a loss, socially and intellectually, from his passing.  Hitchens was an intellectual swashbuckler, swinging from idea to idea with conviction, passion, and without a drop of fear.  I disagreed with him on a great many things, but am certainly poorer for the arguments he left unmade.

Inside Wukan: the Chinese village that fought back →
For the first time on record, the Chinese Communist party has lost all control, with the population of 20,000 in this southern fishing village now in open revolt. The last of Wukan’s dozen party officials fled on Monday after thousands of people blocked armed police from retaking the village, standing firm against tear gas and water cannons.

The Kindle Fire in Your Heart is Out
I’m breaking up with my bookshelf.  I haven’t told her yet, but she must know, right?  All the signs are there.  I’m never interested in reading from her.  I’ve left tomes in sloppy piles, not even organized by category.  I removed about a third of her contents a few weeks ago, and while she didn’t say anything, I knew it hurt her like hell.  It’s been months...

Live! on Youtube
People who spend entire concerts watching on their recording cell phone do not understand concerts.  You go to forget what happened before and what happens after.  You to just abandon yourself into the now.  Why filter it and focus on the future of the moment?  It’s like taking a vacation but never taking your eyes off the posters in the gift shop.  Those kind of people gaze onto grayscale...

Why did Bonobos have such an epic fail on Cyber... →
Bonobos.com is a pretty awesome male apparel company, but they had a huge Cyber Monday failure.  Their site has been down for 4 days or so, a disaster anytime, and they lost a ton of sales.  Their head of UX explains what happened and why.  Very interesting if you care anything about online retail, site stability, or cool, good fitting pants. Also, BustedTees had zero downtime on Cyber Monday....
